Education is our main focus with an emphasis on infrastructure renovation and construction, provision of literacy materials and teaching aids, student awards and enhancement of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) connectivity in rural schools.
To synergise our efforts, we have formed partnerships with relevant stakeholders:
UNZA Student Awards Programme
Partners: The University Of Zambia, Huawei Technologies and Copperbelt Energy Corporation
The student awards programme is part of the Education Partnerships for Africa initiative in which the University of Zambia partners with corporate organisations to support the institution.
MTN Zambia has adopted the awards programme which encourages female engineering students to successfully pursue their chosen career.
The awards are divided into two categories:
The latter is synchronised with the Human Resources Graduate Trainee programme where Zambia enlists the best performing students as interns. Currently, two former students are employed at MTN Zambia after successfully meeting their obligations.
"The more you read the more things you will know. The more that you learn the more places you will go." - Dr. Seuss
This powerful quote inspires us to make reading accessible, especially in rural areas.
MTN Zambia has partnered with Room to Read, an international, non-governmental organisation to promote reading and library activities in rural Zambia.
We have targeted Southern and Eastern provinces in this initial phase that will see renovation of reading rooms in the identified districts of the two provinces.
One of the biggest barriers to education is the lack of infrastructure. A friendly ‘teacher-learner’ environment will encourage both teachers and pupils to stay in school for successful completion of courses.
MTN Zambia partners with the Ministry of Education for construction and renovation of classrooms, targeting rural areas.
We also donate literacy materials including computers, books and uniforms, among other things, to enhance the quality of education in schools.
MTN Zambia is a leading communications solutions provider. In demonstrating this leadership, MTN Zambia introduced the first ever e-learning programme for grade three pupils at Kalingalinga Basic School.
Having commenced in January 2013, pupils have access to their lessons using special computers called ‘The Classmate’, provided by iSchool Zambia. The project is the first of its kind at a government school.
